Being Proactive with training and behaviour rather than reactive
What can I do?
The first step is to reach out for help as soon as you can. It is so important to start off on the right paw. With so much inconsistent advice out there it can be very confusing. Understanding the best ways to approach each dog's needs is invaluable.

Issues with leaving your dogs is very distressing for all involved. Often people feel like they are prisoners especially if their dogs are reactive too. Can't take them with you, but can't leave them either. It is one of the bigger reasons dog's are rehomed. It is important to try to address this with an experienced professional early on to prevent things getting worse and to prevent you getting to the point where you have nothing left to give.

Separation anxiety is an umbrella term used to describe dogs that struggle with being left. It can present or be caused by many different issues and it is important to understand the underlying issue before putting in a plan.

Simply trying to address building the length of time you leave, or trying to sneak out doesn't do this. You need to understand more about what and why they are not coping. By doing this sometimes it is faster to reach a solution, and you may find progress is more stable.
I have worked with hundreds of owners to help them overcome the separation issues they have. I have lived with rescues who arrived with separation issues, some with severe phobias. I really understand how hard it can be!

It is important to remember every dog is different and every family's needs vary. Whilst issues with separation are often labelled as "anxiety" often issues relating to separation are due to different emotions where your dogs show different signs whilst they try to cope. I work with you to identify the underlying cause and put in the best strategies to help your dogs feel more comfortable being left.

It takes commitment, consistency and determination. But with support from me owners have seen great success.

Book a session to start working on this sooner rather than later, it won't get better on it's own.
