Insurance Claims

APBC CAB SCREENSHOT.jpg

Associate members have demonstrated that they have the appropriate level of Knowledge and Understanding for the professional role of Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB). They are now gaining the practical experience necessary to be assessed as a CAB and therefore become a Full member of the APBC. The APBC supports its Associate members undertaking behaviour consultations.

Having worked exceptionally hard to demonstrate this level of knowledge and understanding, I am now an Associate Clinical Animal Behaviourist Member of the APBC.  This means your insurance company may pay for behavioural consultations and services.

You will need to check with your insurance provider to confirm whether they will cover the services you require. You would need to get a veterinary referral (form below) and follow steps laid out by your specific insurer to claim back the costs.

Over time I will be building a portfolio of evidence of specific cases to demonstrate practical evidence of experience of specific cases.

Claiming Through Pet Insurance

Many pet insurance providers offer coverage for behavioural consultations if it is named under your policy, provided certain conditions are met. This will vary between companies. If you plan to claim through your insurer, please read the following carefully:

What You Need to Know

  • Veterinary Referral Required.
Most insurance companies require that behavioural consultations are carried out following a formal referral from your vet. This ensures that any underlying medical issues have been ruled out and that the behavioural issue is appropriately addressed.

  • Please print this document (PDF), or contact me directly to receive it by e-mail,  or for a smooth process, share this link with your vets: https://forms.gle/z5Fq2qeWCyfp5fEW8

  • Either you or your vet send your dogs full veterinary history in advance of your appointment (e-mail provided in vet referral form)

  • If your vet is doing an online referral form, please e-mail me to confirm it has been completed.

  • Certified Behaviourist
I am an Associate Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB) Member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC), a recognised and reputable professional body. This accreditation is accepted by many insurers, including those who require practitioners to be listed with APBC or ABTC.

  • Policy Conditions Vary
Coverage depends on your individual policy. Please check with your insurer to confirm:

    • Whether behavioural treatment is included

    • If a vet referral is mandatory

    • Any limits on session costs or number of visits

    • Whether my qualifications and membership level (Associate CAB) is suitable. I would recommend getting this in writing.

    • How to claim.

If you intend to claim through insurance:

  3. Ask them the process of claiming back the consultation fee's.

  4. Check to make sure there are no endorsements on your policy.

  • Get a veterinary referral or contact me.

  1. Use the document above or contact me directly and I will provide you with a Veterinary Referral Form to take to your vet. This form is required to initiate the referral process and ensure your claim meets insurer requirements. OR Use the link above to pass to your vets for a faster process

  2. Confirm with me referral and veterinary history has been received.

  3. Book a consultation.
